Keystone Lake

Depending on where you are staying, Keystone lake is either right outside your doorstep or within 1 mile.

There are paddle boats, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boards and more fun summer activities available to the whole family. Along with Keystone Lake, the Snake River runs right through Lakeside Village, with a bike path that leads you on a nice tour throughout Keystone. The bike path can take you as far as Lake Dillon and Breckenridge if you feel up for a challenge. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains and the Continental Divide over Keystone Lake, or take in the spectacular lake sunsets.

Surrounded by a paved path, which also runs through the town and beyond, this is a great starting point for hiking and biking trips. The Snake River Trail connects to this path, and it is very easy to access the Keystone Gulch trail, which lies less than a mile southwest of Keystone Lake.

While swimming and fishing are NOT permitted at Keystone Lake, there are plenty of other fun activities to enjoy. Whether you are on the water or wandering around the lake on foot or bike, this is a wonderful spot to spend an afternoon.

Gondola Ride / Dine at Stube

Hiking around Keystone is the best way to experience the natural splendor that is Colorado. Whether you go at it alone, in a group, or on a guided hike, there are trails for all skill levels.

ALPENGLOW STUBE an up-scale casual dining experience. There is something here for everyone, from scallops and lamb rack to duck wonton soup and arugula and fig salad. At 11,444 feet above sea level, this is the highest restaurant in North America. Visitors must ride two gondolas, offering breathtaking views, to reach the mountaintop restaurant.

Hiking

There are tons of great hikes around Keystone. In town, Keystone Lake is surrounded by a paved pathway which extends throughout the town and beyond the resort via the Snake River Trail. For those looking for a more isolated, nature experience, visitors can access the Keystone Gulch trail less than a mile southwest from the lake.

Tenderfoot Mountain is an ideal trail for hikers of all skill levels and an easy way to explore the Dillon Reservoir Recreational Area. As one of the most photogenic Keystone trails, this is a short 3-mile round-trip that takes you past wildflower fields, lakes, and during the fall, groves of yellowing aspens.

Loveland Pass Lake is a very short hike that is perfect for an afternoon outing. Located in the Arapaho National Forest on the opposite side of the Divide, this 1-mile path will lead you to a small lake surrounded by giant, snowcapped mountains. With an elevation gain of only 68 feet, this is a relaxing excursion for visitors of any age and skill level.

For the more experienced hikers and those looking for an excellent workout, Keystone Gulch Trail will have you sweating it out. This is an 18-mile loop with an elevation gain of 2,800 feet, so it is not for the faint of heart! However, while the path is rugged in some places, you will cross over swift creeks, pass by cascading waterfalls, and have a beautiful view of the town below.

Rock Climbing

There is a few good places to go rock climbing not too far. Colorado Adventure Guides is great and they offer guides, lessons, and gear.

There is a climbing wall in Breckenridge, Gold Summit Climbing Wall

There is also indoor climbing at Breckenridge Recreation Center a half hour away.

Golf

There are two great public course just a few 4 minutes down the road.

Keystone River Course: The par-35 front nine follows the path of the Snake River and the par-36 back nine winds through a lodgepole pine forest. Impressive elevation changes, variable bunkers, water hazards, and five sets of tees on each hole combine to challenge golfers of all abilities. Add to that the magnificent views and frequent visits from wildlife and it¹s an experience unlike any other.

Keystone Ranch Course: The Keystone Ranch Golf Course is a classic mountain valley golf course that winds through lodgepole pines, around sage meadows and across a nine-acre lake. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the par 72 Keystone Ranch Golf Course sits on historic ranching land that housed multiple homesteads in the 1900's, with many outbuildings remaining on the course today including, the Keystone Ranch restaurant.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding & Kayaking

We love Stand-up paddle boarding. The Lakeside Adventure Center rents stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, and conoes to use on Keystone Lake.

Keystone lake in convienent being right in town but it is a little small. If you want to explore a little further, there are a ton of great stand-up paddle boarding/kayaking locations and rentals. Ziplining can also be coupled with a half day rafting trip for a full day of outdoor fun in the Rocky Mountains.

The Keystone stables offer Horseback Riding, Draft Horse Clinics,Pony Rides, Wagon Dinners and weekly events. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains while having an outdoor adventure.

Soar above the trees!
Fly on Zip Lines

AVA has a 3 hour tour that includes cliff traversing, rappelling, a 50-foot quick fall and ziplining.

This is about an hour from Keystone. They have two locations and the closest to keystone is Idaho Springs, which is about an hour drive. Their other location, Buena Vista, is beautiful but it's about a 1.75hr drive.

Brekenridge also has a few great zip lines, Expedition Zipline Tour & Breck Flyer Zipline.

White Water Rafting

AVA also does white water rafting tours at both locations. Whitewater rafting trips feature beginner class II rapids all the way to the most advanced class v whitewater in Colorado. We offer various trip lengths from 1/3 day to 3 and 6 day overnight trips. Idaho Spring offers a few different rafting trips along the Clear Creak River.

Clear Creek (at Idaho Springs location an hour from Keystone) rafting trips range from beginner to advanced rapids and trips lengths range from 1/3 to full day trips. Ziplining can also be coupled with a half day rafting trip for a full day of outdoor fun in the Rocky Mountains.

Adventure Paddle Tours

Kayak at the scenic Dillon Reservoir in Frisco about 20 minutes from Keystone. Adventure Paddle Tours Frisco is the only authorized kayak tour operation on Dillon Reservoir. Operating by special use permit through the Dillon Reservoir Recreation Committee.

Both the town and the reservoir are worth checking out.

Explore Breckenridge

Breckenridge has a lot to offer and explore. It's about 40 min from Keystone and is worth the drive. They have alpine slides and coaster, rock climbing, mountain biking, chairlift rides, bungee trampolines, and more. There are also many shops and restaurants to check out.

Keystone Bike Park

Come spring, Keystone Resort transforms from a snowy skier paradise, to a grassy, dirt covered mountain for bikers. You’ll find quick drops, rock gardens, drops and high-speed features at Keystone Bike Park.

The resort features 55 miles of lift-serviced terrain for all ages and skill levels. Just like the ski hills, there’s a natural progression to the bike routes.

Explore an Old Gold Mine

In the 1800s the Country Boy Mine was one of the largest and most famous gold mines in Colorado. Today, you can head underground for a tour of the original mine, pet the burros, slide down the ore chute and pan for gold.

The Country Boy Mine is in Brekenridge about 40 min away.
